The Kholvad House of Canada, The history of Kholvadian in Canada

The movement started to establish Kholvad House of Canada soon after Kholvadians arrived in CanadaWe were getting together and helping one another especially the new comers to settle in, and assist in getting the status, Both of Kholvadians and others.
After attempting to follow our forefathers’ steps in South Africa to establish a association, overcoming some hurdles…..Kholvad House of Canada was officially born …and registered as a nonprofit organization with the Government of Canada in the year 1980. Since then we have never looked back.Although the road was not always smooth, there were blocks, hurdles and misunderstandings. The spirit of our members and  the help and mercy of Allah Subhanahutala remained with us. Naturally, as Kholvadians, we do have lots of dedicated individuals who work hard to keep our heritage and our charitable activities going.

Over the past Over the past 33 years we have by the mercy of Allah done a lot of good work, and taken part in many projects to help the Kholvad community as well as other good causes.
Apart from our annual general meeting, we established a Bewa fund, which helps the needy widows in Kholvad. We help pay doctors bill for poor people in Kholvad. Over 100 new street lights were installed in Kholvad few years ago, completely funded by KHC.
From time to time we helped individuals with assistance to pursue small business, helped needy students who excelled in education. We helped our school MAIK in setting up Science lab when the higher secondary school was approved by government.

We are actively involved and donate money in community projects especially in the establishment of Islamic organizations, Masjids, prayer facilities and first cemetery establishment for Muslims. We have also doanted funds to Local Hospitals in Toronto. Some of the other charitable activities include participation in relief work by donation from KHC and it members. Some examples of disasters are drought in Africa, Asian Tsunami, Earthquakes in India and other countries, floods in India, Pakistan, and typhoon in Bangladesh, Riot relief for Burma and Assam. We also send Qurbanis to various parts of India in poor areas donated by our community.

KHC was first community to start organizing outdoor and indoor parties to get the community together and united. Something even today others look forward to. KHC was first to get sports and recreational activities going in Canada, to be followed by other communities later. A fun volleyball evening on weekends, Carom tournaments, Ping Pong etc.
Have a cricket club. The club plays under Toronto and District Cricket league. At one time we had teams in all divisions… we were first to have a jr. Club, KHC is the first organization to get a out of town and out of Canada tour for our seniors and its members.

In the year 2005 we had a grand celebration of 25th Anniversary…. attended by KH England, South Africa,  Reunion, India, Member of Canadian Parliament, (MP), Member of Provincial Legislature (MPP), local councilor, Police Chief, Leaders of other communities, School trustees, and Consulate general of India. A very successful evening full of information…entertainment and good food. Looking at South Africa we are still in our Infancy, but everyone is as energized towards the success of Organization and the community.
